Playing the match
In TikiTaka, matches consist of a series of attacks between two teams. This section will describe how matches and attacks are structured, and the various factors that influence the outcome of each attack.
-
Match Structure: A match consists of two teams, the home team and the away team. Each team has a set of players with different skills and attributes. The match is played by running a series of attacks, one per minute, where one team attempts to score a goal and the other team defends.
- Attack Phases: Every attack starts at the build-up phase and has at most 4 phases:
- Build-up: In this phase, the attacking team tries to move the ball up the field through passing and playmaking. The success of the build-up phase depends on the attacking players’ passing and playmaking skills, as well as the defending players’ ability to intercept and tackle.
- Breakthrough: Once the attacking team has successfully navigated the build-up phase, they enter the breakthrough phase. In this phase, the attacking team attempts to create a clear goal-scoring opportunity by bypassing the defenders. The success of the breakthrough phase depends on the attacking players’ talent, passing, and playmaking skills, as well as the defending players’ stamina and defending abilities.
- Finishing: If the attacking team manages to create a goal-scoring opportunity, they enter the finishing phase. In this phase, the attacking player can pass or take a shot on goal, with the outcome depending on the player’s shooting skill, the goalkeeper’s ability, and any pressure from nearby defenders.
- Complete: If the shot is successful and results in a goal, the attack is considered complete. The match simulation proceeds to the next attack, with the teams switching roles.
- Player Skills: Each player has a set of skills, such as passing, shooting, and defending. These skills influence the outcome of an attack. For example, a player with a high shooting skill is more likely to score a goal, while a player with a high defending skill is more likely to prevent the opposing team from scoring. The outcome of an attack is determined by calculating a weighted probability based on the attacking players skills and the skills of the defending players. This ensures that a skilled player has a higher chance of succeeding in an attack, while a less skilled player has a lower chance.
The defending player’s skills, such as tackling, marking, or goalkeeping, are used to adjust the probabilities of the attack’s outcome. A skilled defender is more likely to prevent the attacking team from scoring, while a less skilled defender has a lower chance of stopping the attack.
External Factors External factors can also influence the outcome of an attack. These factors can include team morale, weather conditions, or home advantage. These factors can be added as attributes to the Match or Team models, and their impact on the attack’s outcome can be calculated using any formula or weight deemed appropriate.
